Sir Nikolaus Pevsner was an art historian who moved to England from Germany to escape Nazism. He taught at the Universities of London, Oxford, and Cambridge and is best known for his writings on architecture, especially his 46-volume series of county-by-county guides The Buildings of England (1951–74). It is considered one of the great achievements of 20th-century art and his 1974 Staffordshire volume was the last to be published. In this talk, David Wilkinson, a former archaeologist at Stafford Borough Council, highlights his favourite selections from Pevsner’s Staffordshire.
